This continues a longer trend, as the country's newspaper supply has shrunk by about 12% annually since 2006. In 2023, Kazakhstan ranked 55th in global newspaper exports, with Nicaragua surpassing it at the same export value of nearly $277,000. Leading the rankings were Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States, occupying the second, third, and fourth spots, respectively. On the import side, Kazakhstan's newspaper imports dropped dramatically to around $3.6 million in 2018, from nearly $6.7 million in 2017, a steep 46% decline year-over-year. Since 2006, the nation's demand for newspapers has decreased by an average of 28% annually.
