Singapore's newspaper export industry is projected to decline significantly over the next five years, with exports expected to drop to approximately $20.9 million by 2028 from $25.8 million in 2023. This represents an annual decrease of 3.4% in compound annual growth rate (CAGR). The decline in Singaporean newspaper supply has been a long-term trend, averaging a yearly decrease of 3.2% since 1994. In the global ranking of newspaper exports for 2023, Singapore placed 16th. Slovakia edged out Singapore with an export value of $25.8 million. Leading the rankings were Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States, occupying the second, third, and fourth positions respectively. On the import side, the scenario is even more stark. Singaporean newspaper imports are forecasted to plummet to about $2.2 million by 2028 from $7.9 million in 2023. This translates to a steep annual decline of 20% in CAGR. Since 1994, the demand for imported newspapers in Singapore has been on a downward trajectory, decreasing by an average of 10.1% per year.
