Global newspaper exports are projected to decline sharply, falling from approximately $2.9 billion in 2023 to around $2.2 billion by 2028. This represents a yearly decrease of 4.4% in the compound annual growth rate (CAGR). Since 2019, global supply has already decreased by 4.5% annually. In 2023, Poland emerged as the leading exporter of newspapers, with exports valued at about $689 million. Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States ranked second, third, and fourth, respectively. Notably, Samoa's newspaper exports surged by 36.3% year-on-year, while Colombia witnessed a steep decline of 54.8% annually since 2019. Meanwhile, European newspaper publishing revenue is also on a downward trend. It is expected to drop from €33.4 billion in 2023 to approximately €32.8 billion by 2028, marking an average annual decline of 0.3%. Since 2019, the European market has seen a slight annual decrease of 0.1%. Germany led the European market in 2023, generating about €13.1 billion in newspaper publishing revenue. The United Kingdom, France, and Spain followed in the rankings. Spain experienced significant growth, with an 11.3% year-on-year increase, while Greece's revenue plummeted by 36.1% annually since 2019.
