Bulgarian hydropower generation is projected to reach approximately 17,200 terajoules by 2028, up from around 16,200 terajoules in 2023. This marks an average annual growth rate of 0.9%. Since 1995, however, the country's supply has declined by an average of 2.6% each year. In 2023, Bulgaria ranked 20th globally in hydropower generation, with Slovenia slightly ahead at around 16,200 terajoules. Sweden, France, and Italy secured the second, third, and fourth spots, respectively. Similarly, Bulgarian hydro power consumption is also forecasted to rise to about 17,200 terajoules by 2028 from roughly 16,200 terajoules in 2023, maintaining the same annual growth rate of 0.9%. Despite this projected increase, the country has experienced a 2.6% annual decline in demand since 1995. In the 2023 ranking, Bulgaria again placed 20th, with Slovenia surpassing it with about 16,200 terajoules. Sweden, France, and Italy held the second, third, and fourth positions, respectively.
