Since 1975, the country's demand for bioenergy has grown at an average annual rate of 2.4%. In 2021, India was the world's second-largest consumer of bioenergy, with 3.07 billion metric tons, trailing only China. India, Brazil and the U.S. were the third, fourth and fifth-largest consumers, respectively.
