China, Germany and Japan were the second, third and fourth largest producers of food waste in 2021, respectively. Iceland is also set to treat 275,500 metric tons of food waste by 2026, up from 247,500 metric tons in 2021. This represents an average annual growth rate of 1.7%. Since 2000, Iceland's food waste treatment market has grown by an average of 2.4% per year. In 2021, Estonia overtook Iceland in terms of food waste treated, producing 247,500 metric tons. Germany, Japan and Mexico were the second, third and fourth largest treaters of food waste in 2021, respectively.
