In 2017, Ecuador imported a total of 40 kilograms of manganese - up 23.6 percent from 32 kilograms the year before. That's a far cry from 1996, when Ecuador's manganese imports were at their highest, totalling 105 kilograms. Since then, demand has dropped by more than 60 percent.
