In 2023, Germany led European healthcare expenditure on medical goods by retailers, with a value of 1.05 thousand euros per capita, increasing by 3.46% year-on-year. Notable growth was observed in Slovenia and Cyprus, with increases of 6.49% and 14.04%, respectively. Although most countries saw positive expenditure growth, Norway experienced a slight decline. Over the last five years, significant increases in expenditure were seen in Romania and Lithuania. In contrast, Western European countries like France and Italy had modest growth.

Future trends may include increased digital health investments and personalized medical products, driven by innovation and aging populations. Emerging markets in Eastern Europe could also see stronger growth as healthcare systems modernize.
