France leads Europe in scientific research and development activities with an output value of 78.45 billion euros in 2024, showing a year-on-year growth of 3.17%. Germany follows at 58.17 billion euros with a 6.78% increase, and the United Kingdom at 38.6 billion euros, up by 2.49%. Italy and Switzerland have high outputs, recording 26.7 and 24.71 billion euros respectively, with notable growth rates of 4.43% and 8.86%. Other significant contributors include Spain, the Netherlands, and Denmark, exhibiting robust increases of 7.65%, 9.8%, and 7.32% respectively. Austria shows remarkable growth at 11.91%.

Poland, Norway, and Finland show moderate growth rates between 3.2% and 6.24%. The Czech Republic, Ireland, and Romania show impressive growths of 8.03%, 7.17%, and 12.5% respectively. Bulgaria, Estonia, and Lithuania are marked by their substantial year-on-year increases of 15.37%, 16.2%, and 18.25% respectively. Meanwhile, smaller countries like Malta, Serbia, and Iceland are also seeing significant year-on-year growth, particularly Malta at 28.43%. North Macedonia is the sole country showing a slight decline at -0.88%.

Future trends to watch include increasing investments and collaborations aiming at driving sustainable innovations, digital transformation in scientific research processes, and strong policy support from the European Union that may lead to more uniform growth across countries.
