In 2021, Japan was the eighth-largest importer with 1.4 million metric tons, behind France. The United States, Germany and Italy followed, coming in second, third and fourth, respectively. Japanese pulp exports are also projected to see a slight decrease of 0.7% each year through 2026, totaling 223,140 metric tons in that year. In 2021, Japan was the 21st-largest exporter with 233,520 metric tons, just behind Austria. Canada, the United States and Chile were the second, third and fourth-largest exporters in 2021.
