Cheese consumption is expected to rise over the next five years. Figures from 2020 indicate that a total of 289,090,000 kilograms of cheese was consumed worldwide. This is projected to increase by 0.6% year on year, to reach 298,950,000 kilograms by 2026. Demand for cheese is continuing to rise, with a 1% increase year on year. France, the United Kingdom and Germany are the top three cheese consuming countries. Sweden, meanwhile, has seen a decrease in production since 1966. In 2021, it produced 66,540 metric tons of cheese, a 2.2% year on year decrease. Portugal has overtaken Sweden, producing 75,710 metric tons in 2021. Germany, France and Italy are the top three cheese producing countries.
