France, the United Kingdom and Germany are the top three cheese consuming countries. Sweden, meanwhile, has seen a decrease in production since 1966. In 2021, it produced 66,540 metric tons of cheese, a 2.2% year on year decrease. Portugal has overtaken Sweden, producing 75,710 metric tons in 2021. Germany, France and Italy are the top three cheese producing countries.
