Maltese cigar import is projected to decrease by an average of 2.3% each year until 2026. This is a stark contrast to the 7.9% year-on-year growth seen since 1999. In 2018, export of Maltese cigars rose to 806 kilos from 407 kilos in 2017 - an increase of 98%. However, the country has seen a steady decline in supply since 1999, with a decrease of 2.4% year-on-year. In 2018, Malta was overtaken in the global rankings by Senegal, coming in at 67th. Myanmar, Nicaragua, and Germany followed in second, third and fourth place respectively.
