Pig production in Japan is projected to fall slightly in the coming years. According to figures from 1966, production has decreased by an average of 0.5% year-on-year. By 2026, it is estimated that 2.2 million heads of pigs will be produced, a decrease of 0.4% from 2021. At the same time, consumption of pork in Japan is set to rise, albeit slightly. Demand has grown by an average of 0.4% year-on-year since 2017. By 2026, it is expected that 2.8 million metric tons of pork will be consumed, a 0.3% increase from 2021. Japan ranked seventh in 2021, behind Brazil, the US, Russia, and Vietnam.
