Sierra Leone is set to record an increase in pig production and a steady demand for pork over the next five years. Production will rise to 70,300 heads by 2026, from 56,000 heads in 2021. This represents an average annual growth rate of 4%. Since 1966, production in the country has grown by an average of 9% per year. Consumption of pork is forecast to reach 8.8 thousand metric tons by 2026, up from 8 thousand metric tons in 2021. This will mean an average annual growth rate of 1.4% over the same period. Since 2017, demand has remained stable. In 2021, Sierra Leone was ranked 112th in global consumption, with Trinidad and Tobago overtaking it at 8 thousand metric tons. The United States, Russia and Vietnam were ranked 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively.
