Maltese pig production is set to decrease over the next five years. In 2021, there were 6,170 heads of pork, but this is expected to drop to 4,300 by 2026. This decrease is a result of a 5.3% average year-on-year decrease since 1966. Consumption of pork in Malta is also set to drop. In 2021, 10 thousand metric tons were consumed, however, this is projected to fall to 9 thousand metric tons by 2026. Year-on-year, this is a decrease of 3.1% since 2017. This puts the country at 104th place in the world rankings, with Israel overtaking them with 10 thousand metric tons. The United States, Russia and Vietnam respectively come in 2nd, 3rd and 4th place.
