Pig production in Bulgaria is forecast to drop by 6.8% year-on-year to 76,490 heads by 2026, down from 115,020 heads in 2021. This follows a downward trend since 1966, with a decrease of 5.2% year-on-year. Meanwhile, pork consumption in Bulgaria is expected to increase by 0.6% year-on-year to 233,000 metric tons by 2026, up from 224,000 metric tons in 2021. Demand has remained stable since 2017, with the country ranking 42nd in 2021, just behind Switzerland at 224,000 metric tons. The US, Russia and Vietnam ranked second, third and fourth respectively in the same year.
