Latvian pig production is expected to fall by 2.7% year on year, reaching approximately 62,170 heads by 2026. This is a decrease of 10,830 heads compared to the 73,000 heads estimated in 2021. This downward trend has been ongoing since 1997. Meanwhile, Latvian pork consumption is set to rise by 0.9% year on year, reaching 91,000 metric tons by 2026. This is an increase of 5,000 metric tons compared to the 86,000 metric tons estimated for 2021. Since 2017, demand for pork in Latvia has been on the rise, reaching the 62nd spot in the world rankings in 2021. Cambodia was ahead with 86,000 metric tons. The United States, Russia, and Vietnam were the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th biggest pork consumers respectively.
