India's pig production is forecast to decline by 1.4% annually on average and reach 1.6 million heads by 2026. This is a drop of 1.9% since 1966. Consumption of pork in India is projected to drop by an average of 2.3% per year, reaching 241,000 metric tons by 2026. This represents a decrease of 2.2% since 2017, when India was the 38th largest consumer of pork in the world. South Africa overtook India in 2021, with 277,000 metric tons consumed. The United States, Russia and Vietnam took the top three spots in the ranking.
