Consumption of beef in Sri Lanka is expected to decrease slightly in the coming years. In 2021, the country’s beef consumption was estimated at 25 thousand metric tons, a decrease of 0.9% year-on-year. Since 2017, Sri Lanka’s demand for beef has dropped by an average of 1.3% each year. Production of beef in Sri Lanka is estimated to reach 20,130 metric tons by 2026, a decrease of 0.8% year-on-year. The country has seen a decrease in production of 1.7% year-on-year since 1966. In 2021, the Democratic Republic of the Congo overtook Sri Lanka to become the 117th largest producer of beef, with an estimated 21,110 metric tons. Brazil, China and Argentina were the second, third and fourth largest producers respectively.
