Japanese demand for lobster fell by 2.6% year on year since 1993. Japan is set to slip to 10th place in the global imports of lobster by 2026, with a projected 776,970 kilograms imported. This is a 2% average year-on-year decrease since 1993, when the country ranked 46th. The Netherlands overtook Japan in 2021 with 874,240 kilograms, followed by China, South Korea and Italy. In 2018, Romania was ahead of Japan with 85 kilograms. The US, UK and Philippines respectively ranked 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the same ranking.
