South African lobster exports skyrocketed 97.4% in 2018, reaching over 100 kilograms. This is a dramatic increase from the 52 kilograms shipped in 2017. Unfortunately, the overall supply of lobsters from South Africa has been on the decline since 2005, dropping nearly 30% over the last 13 years. Thailand was the largest exporter of lobsters in 2018, surpassing South Africa's 102 kilograms with 102.63 kilograms. The United States, United Kingdom and Philippines followed in second, third and fourth place respectively.
