Despite this long-term downward trend, the country ranked eighth worldwide in 2023. In a notable shift, Iraq surpassed the Netherlands with emissions also at around 135 million metric tons. Meanwhile, Malaysia, Poland, and Kazakhstan secured the second, third, and fourth spots respectively in this ranking.
