China is set to become the world's biggest greenhouse gas emitter in 2026, according to projections. In 2021, China's greenhouse gas emissions were 10.3 billion metric tons, and by 2026, they're expected to reach 11.3 billion metric tons. This growth of 1.5% on average per year since 1976 is higher than the global average of 2.5%. The United States, India and Russia are ranked second, third and fourth in greenhouse gas emissions respectively.
