Sri Lanka's greenhouse gas emissions are set to increase by 2% each year in the next five years. In 2021, the country ranked 77th in the world, with emissions of 23.81 million metric tons. This was higher than the figures in 1976, which were 2.6% higher year on year. Jordan was the highest ranked country in 2021 with emissions of 23.81 million metric tons, followed by the United States, India, and Russia in second, third and fourth place respectively. By 2026, Sri Lanka's emissions are expected to reach 26.96 million metric tons.
