Nepal's greenhouse gas emissions are set to rise in the coming years. Currently at 11.56 million metric tons, they are projected to reach 13.85 million metric tons by 2026, an average annual growth rate of 2.8%. In the past, the country's demand has increased by 6.3% each year since 1976. In 2021, Nepal was ranked 95th in the world, overtaken by Zimbabwe. The United States, India and Russia occupied the second, third and fourth spots in the rankings respectively.
