Burmese greenhouse gas emissions are set to surge by more than eight million metric tons over the next five years. In 2021, the country ranked 60th in the world for emissions, with 38.09 million metric tons. This was an increase of 12.8% since 1976. Portugal overtook Burmese emissions in 2021, with 46.86 million metric tons. The US, India and Russia were the top three emitters, respectively.
