This growth represents an average annual rate of 0.9%. Historically, since 1976, the country's emissions have risen by an average of 2.4% each year. In 2023, the United Arab Emirates ranked fifth globally in greenhouse gas emissions, just behind Kazakhstan, which also reported emissions totaling 187 million metric tons. Malaysia, Poland, and Kazakhstan held the second, third, and fourth positions in the same ranking, respectively.
