British imports of asbestos fell by more than 40% in 2021, compared to 2020, according to new figures. The UK imported 7,370 kilograms of the hazardous material during the 12-month period, down from 12,390 kilograms the year before. Since 1998, asbestos imports have decreased by more than half. The Bahamas overtook the UK to become the 38th largest importer of asbestos in 2021, with 7,370 kilograms. China, Indonesia and Myanmar followed in second, third and fourth place respectively.
