Indian imports of asbestos are expected to reach 404 million kilograms by 2026, according to a recent report. This is a 1.2% year-on-year average growth rate, compared to 377 million kilograms imported in 2021. Since 1993, Indian demand for asbestos has increased at a rate of 4.2% year-on-year. China, Indonesia and Myanmar were the top three countries supplying India with asbestos in 2021. Indian exports of asbestos were close to 136,000 kilograms in 2018, up from 107,000 kilograms in 2017 – an increase of 26.6%. Since 1993, Indian supply has grown by 2.8% year-on-year. India ranked 9th in the world in 2018, with Andorra overtaking at 136,000 kilograms. Kazakhstan, Brazil and China completed the top four exporters of asbestos in 2018.
