In 2018, Cyprus experienced an overwhelming 695.6% surge in asbestos imports compared to the 182 kilograms imported in 2017. Since 1994, the country has seen a 53.9% year-on-year increase in demand. This put Cyprus in 45th place in the global rankings, overtaken by Uganda with 1,450 kilograms. China, Indonesia and Myanmar followed in second, third and fourth place respectively.
