China is set to become the world's largest diamond exporter and importer by 2026. Export of diamonds from China is expected to drop by 2.4% year on year on average, from $1.4 billion in 2021 to $1.2 billion in 2026. Since 1997, the country's supply has decreased by 6% annually. In 2021, China ranked 14th in diamond exports, with Singapore coming out on top with $1.4 billion. The US, Belgium and Israel ranked second, third and fourth, respectively. China's diamond imports are projected to increase by 2.7% annually, from $9.8 billion in 2021 to $11.5 billion in 2026. Since 1997, the country's demand has been rising by 5% each year. In 2021, China held the fifth spot in diamond imports, with the United Arab Emirates in the lead with $9.8 billion. The US, Belgium and UAE followed in that order. By 2026, China is expected to become the largest diamond exporter and importer in the world.
