Japan is set to experience a decrease in diamond imports and a modest increase in diamond exports over the next five years. Exports of diamonds from Japan are projected to reach nearly $99 million by 2026, an increase of 2.9% year on year from 2021’s $83 million. This growth rate has been consistent since 1993, with a 4.8% increase year on year. In 2021, Japan ranked 22nd in the world for diamond exports, with Germany overtaking them at $83 million. The United States, Belgium and Israel respectively came in second, third and fourth. Conversely, imports of diamonds to Japan are projected to fall 2.3% year on year to $642 million in 2026 from 2021’s $735 million. This decline has been consistent since 1993, with a 4.9% decrease year on year. In 2021, Japan ranked 13th in the world for diamond imports, with France overtaking them at $735 million. The United States, Belgium and the United Arab Emirates respectively ranked second, third and fourth.
