Botswana is set to become a major player in the diamond industry in the coming years. By 2026, it is estimated that the country will import $2.1 billion worth of diamonds, a 1.9% growth year on year since 2021. In 2005, Batswana's demand for diamonds increased by 1.7% year on year. Thailand outpaced Botswana in 2021 with $1.9 billion in imports, while the United States, Belgium and the United Arab Emirates ranked second, third and fourth respectively. Meanwhile, Botswana is also expected to export $6.95 billion in diamonds by 2026, with a 1.7% year on year growth since 2021. Since 2005, the country's diamond supply has decreased by 0.5% year on year. In 2021, the United Arab Emirates led the industry with $6.3 billion, while the United States, Belgium and Israel came in second, third and fourth respectively.
