Global demand for pineapples is projected to reach 22 million metric tons by 2026. This is a modest 0.1% increase from the current 21.8 million metric tons. Since 2017, demand has been decreasing by 0.3% each year. China is the world's largest consumer of pineapple, with an annual consumption of 2.2 million metric tons. Brazil, India and the United States follow in second, third and fourth place respectively. Honduras witnessed the biggest year-on-year growth in demand, with an increase of 14.5%, while Swaziland saw the biggest decrease of 8.4%. Global production of pineapples is expected to reach 32.2 million metric tons in 2026, representing an average annual growth rate of 1.5%. Since 1966, global production has increased by 2.5%. Costa Rica is the world's largest producer of pineapples, with an annual output of 3.6 million metric tons. This is followed by the Philippines, Brazil and China. Suriname had the biggest year-on-year increase in production, rising by 30%, while Swaziland experienced the largest decrease, at 44.6%.
