Japanese consumption of pineapples is projected to drop by 4,000 metric tons to 181,000 metric tons by 2026. This follows a 0.4% annual decrease since 2017. In 2021, Japan ranked 29th in pineapple consumption, with Bangladesh coming in first with 186,000 metric tons. Brazil, India and the United States followed, respectively. Meanwhile, Japanese production of pineapples is forecast to drop to 4,480 metric tons by 2026. This accounts for an average yearly decrease of 4.8% since 1966. In 2021, the country was 56th in pineapple production, with South Sudan at the top with 5,970 metric tons. The Philippines, Brazil and China ranked second, third and fourth, respectively.
