European geothermal energy production is expected to reach 137,000 gigawatt-hours by 2026, up from 134,000 gigawatt-hours in 2021. This represents a 0.5% increase year-on-year on average. Since 2016, European supply has increased by 2% year-on-year. France, Germany, and Italy were the second, third, and fourth largest producers respectively. Spain saw the biggest increase, with a 4.5% year-on-year increase since 2016. European geothermal energy consumption is projected to reach 483,000 terajoules by 2026, up from 473,000 terajoules in 2021. This equates to an average 0.4% year-on-year increase. Since 2016, European demand has grown by 1.6% year-on-year. France, Germany, and Italy were the second, third, and fourth largest consumers respectively. Spain saw the biggest increase, with a 4.7% year-on-year increase since 2016.
