In 2021, Spain was ranked 10th in the world for pesticide consumption, with 64,020 metric tons, behind India. The top three countries in 2021 were the United States, Brazil and Argentina. Import of pesticides to Spain saw a significant increase in 2018, totaling 278,190 metric tons compared to 85,210 metric tons in 2017, a 226.5% increase. In 2018, Spain was ranked 5th in the world, with Taiwan taking the lead. Thailand, Germany and Taiwan followed in second, third and fourth place respectively. In 2018, exports of pesticides from Spain decreased by 100% compared to the previous year, totalling only 0.45 metric tons. This is a 88.4% decrease since 1997. In 2018, Spain was ranked 25th in the world, with Thailand in the lead. Germany, Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom followed in second, third and fourth place respectively.
