Romania's pesticide consumption is set to decline by 4.4% year on year CAGR over the next five years, to around 4,000 metric tons in 2026. This figure is a significant decrease from 1995, when the market was at 5,500 metric tons. Romania was ranked 56th in 2021, with New Zealand overtaking it at 4,870 metric tons. The United States, Brazil and Argentina occupied the next three positions in the ranking. Romanian pesticide imports plunged by 99.6% in 2018, to just 0.74 metric tons, from 186.04 metric tons in 2017. This was a significant decrease from 2000, when the demand for pesticides was 72.4% lower than it was a year earlier. Romania was ranked 42nd in 2018, with Costa Rica coming first at 0.74 metric tons. Thailand, Germany and Taiwan occupied the next three positions in the ranking.
