Nigeria is expected to become a major player in the global pineapple market by 2026, with consumption estimated to reach 1.63 million metric tons. This is up from the 1.56 million metric tons recorded in 2021, representing a yearly growth rate of 0.7%. Since 2017, Nigerian demand for pineapples has increased by 0.6% per year, placing the country in fifth place worldwide in 2021, behind the United States, Brazil, India, and Thailand. Meanwhile, Nigerian pineapple production is also on the rise. It is projected to reach 1.91 million metric tons by 2026, growing at an average rate of 1.6% each year since 1966. This places Nigeria in fifth place in 2021, just behind Brazil. India, Thailand, and Brazil respectively took the second, third, and fourth spots.
