Australians are set to eat less pineapple over the next five years. Demand for the tropical fruit is forecast to fall by 0.6% annually, from 137,000 metric tonnes in 2021 to 132,000 tonnes by 2026. This follows a 1% average annual decrease since 2017. Italy topped the demand ranking in 2021 with 137,000 metric tonnes, followed by Brazil, India, and the United States in second, third, and fourth place respectively. Australian pineapple production is also set to decrease, by 1.6% annually, from 82,280 metric tonnes in 2021 to 74,610 tonnes by 2026. This follows a 2.8% average annual increase since 1966. Paraguay topped the production ranking in 2021 with 82,280 metric tonnes, followed by the Philippines, Brazil, and China in second, third, and fourth place respectively.
