Demand for Malagasy cassava is set to drop slightly, reaching 2.1 million metric tons by 2026. This would be a 1.1% drop on average year-on-year since 2017. Madagascar was the 14th largest consumer in 2021, behind Ivory Coast with 2.2 million metric tons. Indonesia, Ghana and Mozambique came in at second, third and fourth, respectively. Meanwhile, Malagasy cassava production is projected to stay stable at 2.8 million metric tons by 2026, despite a 1.1% rise since 1966. In 2021, Madagascar was the 23rd largest producer, behind Paraguay with 2.8 million metric tons. The Democratic Republic of the Congo, Thailand and Ghana took second, third and fourth places respectively.
