Italian mushroom production plummeted by 33.5% in 2021, reaching 28,380 metric tons from 42,670 in 2020. This marks the lowest production since 1966, when the year-on-year decline was a staggering 16.1%. Russia overtook Italy as the world's 17th largest producer, with 28,380 metric tons of mushroom production. Japan, the United States and Poland respectively took the second, third and fourth spots in the rankings.
