Since 2015, the country's demand for geothermal energy has consistently increased at this rate. In 2023, Slovenia ranked 13th globally in geothermal energy consumption, with Poland narrowly ahead at around 655 terajoules. The leading nations in this sector were Iceland, France, and Germany, occupying the second, third, and fourth positions, respectively. On the production front, Slovenia's geothermal energy generation is expected to reach nearly 210 gigawatt-hours by 2028, up from about 183 gigawatt-hours in 2023, averaging a 2.1% annual growth rate. Since 2015, the country's geothermal supply has seen a yearly increase of 1.9%. In the global rankings for 2023, Slovenia also held the 13th spot in geothermal energy generation, with Poland surpassing it with similar figures. Leading the charge in geothermal production were Iceland, France, and Germany, securing the top three positions.
