In 2021, Algeria was the 11th highest wheat consumer, with Italy overtaking it with 7.9 million metric tons. India, the U.S. and Pakistan ranked second, third and fourth, respectively. Algeria's wheat production is forecast to rise to 4.6 million metric tons by 2026, a 2.3% year-on-year average increase since 1966. In 2021, the country was the 29th largest producer, behind Denmark with 4.0 million metric tons. India, Russia and the U.S. took the second, third and fourth spots respectively.
