Italian consumption of barley is projected to decline by 2.2% annually, on average, over the next five years, to reach 17,000 metric tons by 2026. This would represent a return to its 2017 level. Italy was the 34th largest importer of barley in 2021, behind Romania’s 19,000 metric tons. Morocco, India and Algeria were the top three importers of barley in 2021. Meanwhile, Italian production of barley is estimated to rise slightly by 0.3% annually to reach 1.1 million metric tons by 2026. This would be a 1.9% increase since 1966. Iraq was the 27th largest producer of barley in 2021, with 1.1 million metric tons. France, Germany and Canada were the top three producers of barley in 2021.
