Consumption of barley in the United Kingdom is forecast to dip to around 29 million metric tons by 2026, a decrease of 2% on average each year from 2021. This follows a period of relative stagnation from 2017 onwards. Morocco, India and Algeria were the second, third and fourth largest consumers in 2021. British production of barley is also predicted to rise slightly to about 6.9 million metric tons by 2026, an increase of 0.3% on average each year from 2021. This follows a period of steady growth from 1966 onwards. The UK was the eighth largest producer in 2021, lagging behind Spain in first place with 6.8 million metric tons. France, Germany and Canada were the second, third and fourth largest producers respectively.
