Spain is set to become the fifth-largest exporter of bauxite over the next five years, according to new market forecasts. The country currently exports 1.9 million metric tons of the ore annually, growing at an average annual rate of 1.8%. Since 2000, Spanish bauxite exports have increased by 3.1% year-on-year. France has overtaken Spain to become the largest exporter in 2021. Ireland, the Netherlands and France respectively rank second, third and fourth in the same ranking. An estimated 5.96 million metric tons of bauxite are expected to be imported by Spain by 2026, representing a 1.4% year-on-year growth. Since 2000, Spanish demand for bauxite has risen by 8.8% annually. Germany is the leading importer in 2021, importing 5.47 million metric tons. Spain, Ireland and France follow in second, third and fourth place respectively.
