The organic cultivated mushroom production in Spain has shown significant fluctuations over the past decade. In 2013, it stood at 437 metric tons and after peaking in various years, saw a dramatic decline to 126 metric tons in 2023. The production showed high volatility with substantial year-on-year variances, such as a 295.45% increase in 2016, a 352.94% rise in 2019, and a 109.94% growth in 2022. However, 2023 witnessed a steep decline of 64.9%. The Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) for the five years leading up to 2023 averaged at 19.83%.
Forecasts from 2024 onwards predict a continuous decline in production, with a projected CAGR of -20.03% over the next five years. The production volume is expected to fall significantly, reaching 35 metric tons by 2028, representing a 67.29% decrease from 2023 levels.
Future trends to watch for:
- Adoption of advanced cultivation technologies and practices to improve yields.
- Impact of environmental regulations on organic farming.
