Sugar production in Cuba is expected to drop in the coming years. In 2021, the country was the 25th largest producer of sugar at 1.1 million metric tons. This is down 7.6% from the peak of production in 1966. Peru was ahead of Cuba in the rankings, producing 1.1 million metric tons of sugar. Brazil, Thailand and China were the second, third, and fourth largest producers respectively. By 2026, Cuban production is estimated to reach 845 thousand metric tons, a decrease of 5.1% year on year on average.
