This growth rate is relatively low compared to 1966, when the rate was only 0.1% year on year. In 2021, Costa Rica was the 41st largest sugar producer, with 450,000 metric tons. Uganda overtook the country that year, having produced 448,820 metric tons. Brazil, Thailand and China were the second, third, and fourth largest producers respectively.
